At the mess I've made

You can't see it but my brain is on fire
Go to school to find a good job
Probably die before I can retire

I'm fine at science but I've never been a math whiz
And no matter how old I am
I still don't know what a 401k is

I'm on board, I'm along for the ride
Nothing makes any sense and that's fine, that's fine
Don't get me wrong, I was told it'd be hard
But I didn't think I'd go broke puttin' gas in my car

I look at you and you seem to have it figured out
Make it look easy even when you've been knocked around
I guess in time I'll stand on my two feet
But at the moment I'm feeling pretty offbeat

You tell me to hurry, make a choice and just stick to it
But that's easier said than done
When you're not sure who you wanna be yet

I try to list all of the things that make me different
Fun exaggerations that'll woo the admissions

I sit and wait for the mail like a dog in the window
And I'm waiting and waiting to find out
If I'm gonna be in debt for the rest of my life

My whole future feels like it's sitting in limbo
